Lepage

I mean, Lepage was walking around the Grand Exchange, minding his own business, using his hard-earned money to purchase some lovely ranarr seeds. My character is an average guy you could say, higher than a n00b, lower than the elite, and too often asked what kind of combat pure I am (by the way, I am not a pure whatsoever). Lately, this little guy has been hard at work farming for some extra cash flow, and finishing the last levels to get his 99 Woodcutting cape. As I waited, a lower level player approached me, saying:

n00b: I’m poor! Look what I have! *sends trade request*
Me: Oh, yeah, let’s see. *rolls eyes knowing some nice rares are coming*
n00b: See? This is it. *puts up all party hats and full 3rd age*
Me: *closes trade window in anger*

Now, end of experience. And I believe some of you have read one or many rants like this before. Do not be offended if you have rares, I have nothing against them or any other expensive items. But, I am against wasting money on these items when your money could have been spent on much more important things, skilling. You could say, I’m a skiller at heart, and even more so since I have joined my clan. Overtime, I have learned that instead of using my money on fullout dragon armour, why not just buy plain rune if that’s all I need for the things I do? I can spend that extra 10m (probably more) on funding skilling, heck that money alone could get me 99 Crafting!

Let me share with you, in my bank I have not one piece of metal armour. At the moment, I am currently going for 99 Woodcutting, so for what reason would I even need armour or fancy costume? The training won’t be any faster whatsoever, probably only slower with all the trade requests you may get. It’s not complicated in my opinion, just a matter of mindful spending!

Here’s a real life look. I worked for a few years and have one million dollars in the bank. I live alone, no pets, no nothing. Let’s say I have two options.

Option #1: Buy a condo, perfect size for one person, possibly for two if you ever got a girlfriend/boyfriend. For easy numbers, let’s say it cost $100,000. That means you will have $900,000 left over, to furnish your condo with all the best new stuff, and upgrades for everything. On the outside, it might not look amazing, but on the inside, it’s a dream home.

Option #2: Buy a mansion, enough room for a ten person family and a butler. Let’s say this cost $900,000. You’ll have $100,000 left to buy furnishings for your house, and with such little money, your house won’t be looking too good. BUT, on the outside, your house is the most amazing thing on the street, but inside, it’s not so hot.

Okay, so these numbers are not going to always be like this, but I hope you get the point. Let’s say that the house itself (condo vs. mansion) is your Runescape character’s costume. But the inside furnishings and upgrades of the house are the skills and quest points for your Runescape character. Does that make a little more sense now?

I’ll leave this up for you to debate and decide (it is a rant anyway!). Some people are cosmetic people, some people are more down to earth. In this case, some people want costumes, some people want skills. Heck, some lucky people even have both. But I have to say I’m more for the skills this time. I have nothing against anyone, it’s your money, do as you please. As long as you’re a nice person, you’re great in my books! Comment your debates!

Dr Lepage

If you read the previous post, you may have seen I changed my name to something similar to my old account’s name. It made me think of why I had chosen the name in the first place, and what it meant to me. A little story on how I originally got the name, Mr Lepage. It’s kinda funny actually.

I used to play Runescape, long long ago, when Runescape 2 just came out. I was into it, but too young to understand how to make my ways through the world. I lost interest, and the game became a long lost memory, a fad passed. But years later, I came back, looking for a wonderful game to play. I was craving something complex, with almost endless limits of what you could do. It hit me, why not take another swing at Runescape?

So I went to the website, and and was about to make an account. I wasn’t sure of an account name, and I wasn’t sure of how serious of a player I was going to become. I looked around the room in thought, and saw my Toucan (yes, I have a Toucan). His name, was Lepage, and to be honest, I’m not quite sure why I named him that. But it came to me, Mr Lepage. I thought it was original, clever you could say. And that name just grew on me, it was my first real account. It was so terrible to see it get hacked, but hey, that’s a whole other story!

So, it’s the night of Halloween, and no, I’m not a nerd who stays home Halloween playing Runescape. I had already gone trick or treating (free candy for the win!) and came home, partied with some buddies and now it was time to a farm run before bed. Being 3 in the morning (aren’t I a party animal?), the dead of night began to cloud my intellingence. I was was getting tired, just thinking of getting to bed. But I looked down as I was about to log on, and saw myself typing “Dominantov93″, the name of my account. I began to miss the Lepage legacy, and considered my options.

It seemed there was only one, Jagex’s wonderful wonder of a tool that allowed you to change your display name every month, to anything you pleased. What a perfect idea I thought, I clicked and typed, searching for a clever and witty name that involved the name “Lepage” in it.

*sidenote: Making names with Lepage isn’t easy, many people have the good ones. I mean, Lepage? Come on people, that’s for my legacy!*

Anywho, after trying multiple names I thought of, they all sounded stupid or were taken. I searched my house for my thinking cap, which was conviently (sarcasm) MIA. Without the cap, I was stumped, until I glanced over my shoulder and saw my articulate Halloween costume. I was a doctor (an evil one, don’t poke fun!) and thought that if I tried changing the “M” in my old name to a “D”, I would become Dr Lepage! And yes, the name was open. Who said a Runescape character can’t have a Ph.D?

*sidenote #2: For people who ask, I am not involved in real estate and no, I do not know any of your cousins from Quebec. You’d be surprised how much I get asked that!

So now you can add me in game as Dr Lepage. The Lepage legacy is truly alive and well!

Woodcutting, a favourite and rather classic skill. When’s the last time it got updated? Today. Some fun and super fast new ways to raise woodcutting have been introduced, and I’ll probably write a guide soon enough to show you how. They are the new “sawmill” game for those with a level of 80 or higher, and the new choking ivy plant giving a WHOPPING 332.5xp EACH. Also, when cutting teaks and mahoganys you’ll have a chance to get some “special logs” that you can use to turn logs into planks for free at the sawmill.

Also, my favourite update today has to be the new update in graphics, especially Edgeville Furnace. The update removed the door compltely, and it’s the same distance from the bank! Talk about fast xp. Now, I know some people disagree with the fact that you no longer need the varrock armour to get in, and I kinda disagree as well. But man, no door? That’s amazing!

I’m aiming for 85 crafting today, going slowly but surely. Tomorrow should be a big day as well, as I have the day off of school. A big shoutout to my friend Scratchy172 today, getting his first 99 cape, a mage cape that is. I suppose I’ll update here later on what I reach today, for now that is all.

I’ve been crafting off and on, and today I raised my level up to 84 Crafting. My training consists of my daily staves, making loads of holy symbols and making glass orbs to charge. I’ve also got a few random levels here and there, nothing too big. Now that I’m back I’m aiming to really speed up the training, hopefully reach at least 90 by the end of the month. I’m in no rush, but I’m eager to get the cape.

That’s pretty much it for now, hope to maybe see some comments!

Now, I didn’t enter it myself, but I did perform in one (shame it didn’t make the finals). I’m not trying to be biased or mad whatsoever, but I find it odd that three of the finalist’s videos involved the Jagex team and judges in some way. I personally found these to be the most boring videos of them, but I know they put more effort into them then most people did. I suppose it my just be coincidence.

My favourite video had to be Siamsa’s Jig Video. I absolutely how perfect the editing is, and I clearly see how much effort he put into it! To see all the capes like that and all of Runescape, really makes me think about how diverse and immense this game is. And I started to play the game because of it’s diversity in the first place.

The prize is a trip to Cambridge to the wonderful and slightly fabled Jagex Headquarters, somewhere I’d love to go one day as well. It’s nice to see how Jagex is becoming a little more involved in the community, or at least they are in my opinion.

Days are winding down until school starts next week, so I’m trying to crack down on crafting because I know my rates are going to be slower then. But I’m also struggling to see all my friends before school starts.

Tomorrow may be a moneymaking day, using my favourite pie making method (yes, 99 cooking does come in handy). I suppose I could link you to the guide I made on my clan forums, or maybe just copy and paste it here. I’ve been making upwards of 600k an hour, all just sitting at the Grand Exchange with minimal clicking.

I found out a little earlier today that alching Ruby Rings in Zanaris has been nerfed, by this “personal shop” update. I’m glad I switched to crafting in time, but I’ll need another nice method to 99 mage now. Is Jagex screwing us over on alot of shop exploiting? And when I say shop exploiting, I mean buying things cheap from a store that sell reasonably higher on the Grand Exchange. I know personally this can be a decent moneymaking method for a low level player or pure. (IE. Buying eye of newts.) I never saw it as a problem, nor do I see how it may change the prices in the Grand Exchange. Time will tell I suppose.

Tomorrow I might work on getting the Varrock armour to buy more battlestaves for crafting, and for sake of having to do it. That’s about it.
